The Windham Flute Ensemble (WFE) was formed in the spring of 1998 by members of the Windham Community Band (WCB). The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity for flutists to experience the enjoyment of playing music and improving their musical skills in a smaller musical group. The ensemble is open to all flutists. The original members of the WFE are Sharon Fenton, David Howard, Donna Markham, and Laura DiSanto. They were joined by Carolyn DeSchuytner early in 1999.
The WFE often plays a few selections as part of WCB concerts, and also plays separately. They have played at the Windham Apple Festival, the Magical Evening of Giving at the Rockingham Park Mall, the WCB's annual Evening of Music Pops Concert at Castleton, the Methuen Senior Center, the Windham Woman's Club, Salem's First Celebration at Rockingham Park, SalemHaven Retirement Home, Pine Hill Retirement Home, and a holiday concert in front of Howie Glynnâs convenience store in Windham.
The WFE plays a variety of musical styles chosen for the enjoyment of its audiences. Selections include "Pops" favorites, holiday music, and light classical.
The director of the WFE is David Howard. He is flute section leader and president of the WCB, teaches flute, and plays saxophone and clarinet in the Windham Swing Band. He has degrees in Music History from Yale University and Musicology from Smith College.
The WFE is available for events and concerts. Contact David Howard at 603 893-2404 or via e-mail at info@WindhamCommunityBand.com for more information. |
